Image
The Owe Common Front has reaffirmed its commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while calling on political leaders in Kogi State and Kogi West to prioritise unity, cooperation and the long-term development of the Owe community. The group made the position known in a 10-point resolution adopted at its meeting held on Monday, August 31, 2026, and signed by its Chairman, Chief Julius Arokoyo, Obamudi of Oweland, and Secretary, Mr. Augustine Ajibade. In the resolution, the Owe Common Front said its continued support for the APC would go hand in hand with its commitment to protecting the welfare, unity, development and future of the Owe people. The group recognised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as the Governor of Kogi State and leader of the APC in the state, while also acknowledging the responsibilities of federal legislators representing Kogi West to advance the interests of their constituents. KOGI 2027: “THE SUN MUST ALWAYS RISE IN THE EAST, TO SET IN THE WEST, THE SUN WILL NEVER REMAIN IN THE ‘CENTRAL’ OR MIDDLE.” — (SOCRATES)

Image
“A MARGINALIZED SYSTEM CANNOT BE USED TO JUSTIFY EQUITY AGAINST THE PEOPLE; EVIL CANNOT CURE EVIL.” The 2027 Kogi State governorship election is gradually becoming much more than another contest for political power. It is increasingly shaping up as a defining moment in the state's political history—a moment that will force Kogi people to confront questions of equity, inclusion, political rotation, democratic choice and the right of every major section of the state to aspire to the highest office. At the centre of that conversation is the growing agitation for Kogi West, particularly the Okun people, to produce the next governor of the state in 2027. The metaphor contained in the headline is simple but politically powerful. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. It does not remain permanently in the middle. In a plural society such as Kogi, political power should similarly not be regarded as the permanent possession of any geographical, ethnic or political bloc....

Ijesa Group Knocks Recall Call Against Fadahunsi, Highlights Empowerment, Infrastructure Interventions

Image
An Ijesa-based youth advocacy group, Ijesa Intellectuals, has rejected calls for the recall of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, describing the move as politically motivated and a reflection of inadequate understanding of the constitutional requirements for recalling a serving senator. In a statement issued on Thursday in Ilesa by it's spokesman, Yinka Aluko, the group said those behind the recall campaign were attempting to exploit political sentiments to undermine the senator's standing in Osun East Senatorial District. The group argued that the recall process was a constitutionally prescribed procedure involving substantial mobilisation of voters and verification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rather than a political petition. It said, “An averagely educated Nigerian knows that recall process is not a joke like the jokers and their sponsors thought; however, it is important we educate them and alert Ijesas in particular about the despe...

Kogi Southerners Launch N- Empowerment Scheme for 1,000 Market Women to Back Ododo’s 2027 Vision

Image
In a move to deepen grassroots support for the administration of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, the Southerners in Kogi State have concluded arrangements to empower over 1,000 market women across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. The initiative, tagged “South-South Traders and Market Women Empowerment Fund in Support of Ododo,” is designed as a grant, not a loan, aimed at strengthening economic resilience among traders while also mobilizing support ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to a statement signed by Kingsley Oshilim, Acting Secretary of Southerners in Kogi State, the program reflects a shift “from handouts to sustainable wealth creation” in line with the economic priorities of the Ododo administration. Under the arrangement, 50 market women will be selected from each LGA, with 100 beneficiaries in Lokoja, which will serve as the pilot for the flag-off.   Governor Ododo is expected to formally launch the first phase of the scheme in Lokoja...

Image
By Our Reporters A senior media professional and former Managing Director of DailyTrust Newspaper , HRH Akogun Isiaq Ajibola, has urged  Nigerians to guard against fake news as social media deepens democracy warning that the growing democratisation of information must be accompanied by greater responsibility among citizens. Ajibola  made the call on Wednesday as a Special Guest of Honour at the public lecture titled “Economic Reforms and Sustainable Economic Development in a Democracy,” held at the National Merit House, Abuja. Reflecting on the role of the media in Nigeria’s democratic journey, He recalled that the struggle against military rule and for the restoration of democracy was championed largely by courageous independent media organisations and journalists who operated under difficult circumstances. He noted, however, that the media landscape has changed fundamentally with the emergence of smartphones and social media. “In those days, the independent media...

NO VACANCY IN 2027’: HOW GOV. ODODO’S LABOUR FRIENDLY POLICIES, EDOKA’S ADVOCACY REDEFINED WORKERS’ WELFARE IN KOGI

Image
By Abu Micheal  When Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo rolled out brand new buses for the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and the Joint Negotiating Council in Kogi State in the last few days, it was more than a gesture. For workers across the 21 LGAs, it was the latest proof that labour matters in this administration, and that the man at the helm understands that the strength of government is measured by the welfare of its workforce. Since assuming office, Governor Ododo has deliberately positioned workers at the center of governance. The jinx of salary delays that once defined public service in the state has been broken. Salaries are now paid promptly and consistently at both state and local government levels. For local government workers who for years endured percentage payments, the shift to full payment has restored dignity to the job and confidence in government. The administration also sustained the payment of the N72,000 new minimum wage...

OMALA HAS FOUND ITS VOICE: WHY HON. UMAR YAHAYA ‘CONNECT’ DESERVES ANOTHER TERM

Image
By Abu Micheal  Never in the history of representation has Omala State Constituency gotten it as good as it is today. From Abejukolo to Bagana, from Oforachi to Icheke, from Ijaha to Alloma, from the Anyigba-Omala axis to the riverine communities, the story is the same. The people are seeing government up close, and they like what they see. It is for this reason that the general belief across Omala today is simple and direct: Omala will be better with another term for Hon. Umar Yahaya. Hon. Umar Yahaya, popularly called “Connect,” has brought a new face to representation in Omala State Constituency. He is a man sold out to leaving marks on the sands of time. In the Kogi State House of Assembly, his name has become a reference point. Colleagues cite him. Communities point to him. And constituents measure other lawmakers against him. As published in time past, Hon. Umar’s accomplishments are numerous and cut across every sector that touches the life of the people. In educ...

AJAOKUTA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: A JUSTIFIED MANDATE, A CASE FOR ANOTHER TERM

Image
...Reflecting On Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem’s Representation, Why 2027 Must Consolidate The Gains   By Abu Micheal In politics, the true test of a mandate is not the noise that announced it, but the work that follows it.   Two years after he was first elected to represent Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, SEA, has turned that test into a reference point. The verdict from the 14 wards is already forming: this is a justified mandate, and it requires another term. Another term is not about continuity for its own sake. It is about consolidation. It is about giving a lawmaker who has found his footing the room to bring his ingenuity and experience to bear, to deepen what he started, and to make sustainability the centerpiece of representation. In the lawmaking chamber, laws are not made in one session. Impact is built over time, through relationships, through follow-through, and through the experience ...

Q.S. AMINU ABUBAKAR SULEIMAN: THE MAN TO BEAT IN KOGI EAST — WHY THERE IS NO STOPPING A CANDIDATE FOR THE PEOPLE

Image
Ahead of the forthcoming Kogi East Senatorial District election, a quiet but decisive shift is happening across the nine local governments. In markets, campuses, town halls and community meetings, one name keeps surfacing with a sense of expectation that has not been felt in a long time. Q.S. Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, the maverick and intelligently mobile candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has stepped into the race not with noise, but with presence, and the people are responding. From reports in the Media and other verifiable platforms, the story of Q.S. is not being written by handlers in faraway offices. It is being written by the people who have met him, who have asked him questions, and who have watched him take notes instead of making promises he cannot keep. That is why there is both hope and fear around his candidacy. Hope, because Kogi East believes it may have finally found a voice that will match its yearning. Fear, among those who benefit from the old o...

Image
Our Reporter - Abuja Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed Chief Thomas Ereyitomi as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Warri House of Representatives in the 2027 general election. The Judge on Thursday dismissed a suit brought against him by another aspirant for the Constituency, Dr Ekpoto Emmanuel challenging his nomination and submission of his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC. Dr Ekpoto Emmanuel had in the suit prayed the Court to nullify the participation and emergence of Thomas Ereyitomi as the duly nominated candidate of the APC for the Warri Federal Constituency. His grouse against Thomas Ereyitomi's nomination by APC was that he was a member of the APC and the Nigeria Democracy Congress (NDC) at the time he stood for the May 16 primary election that produced him.
