South-South Residents in Kogi Hold Maiden Gov. Ododo Draught, Ayo Competition,

..Drum Support for Tinubu, Ododo Second Term

The first edition of the monthly Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo South-South States Draught and Ayo Competition has been held in Lokoja, with participants and residents reaffirming their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo in the 2027 general elections.

The competition, organised for residents in and around Baptist, Crowther Memorial College and NEPA polling units of Ward A, Lokoja LGA, brought together lovers of the traditional board games in a colourful atmosphere of unity, culture and political sensitisation.

Speaking at the flag-off of the tournament, the Special Adviser to the Governor on South-South Mobilisation and President of the South-South States Community in Kogi State, Abu Michael, said the initiative was designed not only for recreation but also as a platform to sensitise participants to the programmes, policies and accomplishments of the present administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Ododo.

According to him, draught and Ayo Olopon are more than games. "Draught makes you a strategist, Ayo makes you a calculator. Both sharpen critical thinking, improve concentration, boost mathematical and problem-solving skills, enhance memory and promote social bonding. They also help preserve our rich African cultural heritage, reduce stress and teach patience and sportsmanship," he stated.

He described the competition as a way of keeping the people meaningfully engaged while showcasing the outstanding developmental strides recorded since the advent of the APC administration at the federal level and in Kogi State.

Abu said the competition represents the collective endorsement of the South-South residents in Kogi State for the continuity of good governance, noting that the Ododo administration has given unprecedented recognition and inclusion to the South-South community since the creation of the state.

"This competition is our own way of saying thank you and to declare our total support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo. We have felt inclusion, we have seen development, and we are ready to reciprocate with our votes in 2027," he added.

He called on participants and spectators to continue to support the APC-led government and to remain united as residents contributing to the peace and progress of Kogi State.

Highlights of the maiden edition were the presentation of cash prizes to winners who took first, second and third positions in both draught and Ayo categories, as well as financial support to the Baptist Draught and Ayo Clubs to strengthen grassroots participation in traditional games.

Participants commended the organisers for reviving indigenous games and for providing a platform that combines entertainment, mental development and political awareness.

Speaking on behalf of the Baptist Club Draught and Ayo Clubs, Alh Sanni Musa, thanked the Southerners for the competition, assured of their support for the administration of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo.

Highlights of the competition was presentation of prizes to both the Draught and Ayo winners as well as monetary support for the Club.

Nyamkpa Ruling House Denies Emergence of New Etsu Bassa Nge in Kogi

The Nyamkpa Ruling House in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State has dismissed reports circulating in some quarters that a new Etsu Bassa Nge has emerged following the demise of the paramount ruler, General Abu Ali Mopa (Rtd).
