Kogi Adds Another Notary Public As CJ Swears-in Barr. Bello

The number of Notaries Public in Kogi State increased by one yesterday when Iyamoye-born Barr. Bello Mohammed Musa was sworn-in at the state's Judiciary headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital, by the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Josiah Joe Majebi.

Barr. Bello was sworn-in as a 
Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the CJ after his appointment by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun JSC, was communicated to the CJ.

In his charge, Justice Majebi reminded the new Notary that his new call was an "appointment guided with responsibility" just as he was also proud of the quality of members of the Bar branches in the state.

"This appointment is a pointer to the fact that ours are very serious Bar branches in the state and it also points to our intellectuality, humility and transparency. I want to congratulate you and add that it is an appointment guided with responsibility. 

"The issue of fraud was also mentioned in the oath of office you have just taken to butress this point. It is my prayer for God to give you the grace not to disappoint as you have automatically become an officer of the Supreme Court of Nigeria" he pointed. 

The CJ hinted that when the appointee's name was forwarded to the Chief Justice of the Federation, he was screened and found worthy of good behavior, dedication and honesty.

He urged him to shine more and keep up with the good name he has built over time that has earned him the prestigious appointment. He urged him to be comported and abstain from what could bring him and the legal institution into disrepute whikr warning that the appointment only an instrument of maintaining law and order which as well be withdrawn and also attract prosecution should he indulge in fraud.

"Know you too, that it can be terminated and you can be prosecuted if fraud is involved. We however wish this time, that you shine more in this area of the responsibilities" he finally wished him.

Presentng the newly sown-in Notary Public earlier, the DCR-Special Duties,  Agatha Shankyula Esq., informed that Barr. Bello, who aspires to be a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is a private legal practitioner whose core area of practice include Litigation, corporate practice and commercial transactions. 

She disclosed that he 
was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2015, after attending the Kogi State University, Anyigba, where he bagged his LLB degree and the Nigerian Law School for his professional training. 

The new Notary Public, according to her, served briefly in the Law firm of J. E Okodogbe & Co. after his NYSC service, and later joined the law firm of Liman Salihu & Co. in Lokoja, Kogi State, as a counsel, In 2017. He practices presently under the name of Palace Legal Consult.

Barr. Bello was one time Secretary of the NBA, Lokoja Branch, from 2023 to 2025, and he is married with children she said.

In his vote of thanks, the new Notary Public expressed his gratitude to the CJN, the CJ and the judiciary "for making it possible despite the strictness of time" while also promising not to disappoint by constantly protecting the integrity of the legal profession without compromise.

"My lord, I promise that having taken this oath, I will not disappoint the judiciary. I will take it as an added responsibility to protect the integrity of the judiciary by adding my quota decently" he said.

The swearing-in event was witnessed by Management members of the High Court of Justice alongside the new Notary's family, friends and well-wishers.
