2027 SHOWDOWN: Motunrayo Olonikadi Insists on Open Primary, Rejects Pressure to Step Down

Tensions are rising ahead of the 2027 House of Assembly elections in Kabba/Bunu as Hon. Motunrayo Idowu Olonikadi has firmly rejected mounting calls for her to step down, instead demanding a transparent and open primary process.

In a strongly worded statement released by her media team, Olonikadi’s camp expressed “utter dismay” over what it described as attempts to force her withdrawal from the race. The statement condemned such moves as “anti-democratic,” warning that democracy must be anchored on credible contests rather than what it termed “induced consensus.”

The camp further alleged that certain political actors, particularly within Oke-Koko ward, are orchestrating a coordinated effort to pressure aspirants into stepping aside for a preferred candidate. According to the statement, such actions represent a “voodoo style of democracy” and undermine the principles of fairness and inclusion.

Distancing herself from what was described as “ignoble and reckless acts,” Olonikadi maintained that her aspiration remains intact and driven by the collective will of the people. Her camp also dismissed reports of any meeting where she was allegedly asked to step down, labeling them as “malicious fabrication” and “pure fiction.”

In her words, “There was no time I was called for any meeting. The entire story is false and designed to distract from the growing support we enjoy.”

She characterized the development as a deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at weakening her rising political momentum, insisting that no amount of propaganda would derail what she described as a “God-ordained movement.”

Olonikadi concluded by urging her supporters and the people of Kabba/Bunu to disregard the reports and remain resolute in the push for credible representation, as political alignments continue to evolve in the lead-up to the crucial 2027 elections.
