FUL VC charges graduating Students to be good Ambassador, as institution Holds 9th Convocation Ceremony

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) on Saturday held its 9th Convocation Ceremony at the Convocation Ground located within the university’s permanent site, marking another milestone in the institution’s steady growth and commitment to academic excellence.

The colourful and well-attended ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the country, including top government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry, members of the academic community, and proud parents of graduating students.

Among the prominent personalities who graced the event were former Senate President, Senator David Mark, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, the Maigari of Lokoja, the Olu of Oworo, and the Roggan of Eggan, who joined other eminent Nigerians in celebrating the university’s achievements and the success of the graduating class.

In his convocation address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, congratulated the graduating students for their perseverance and hard work throughout their academic journey.

He urged them to be worthy ambassadors of the university and to use their knowledge and skills to promote development and nation-building.

Prof. Akinwumi expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its continued support to the institution, particularly in infrastructure development at the permanent site.

He noted that the university has witnessed significant progress in recent years, including the completion of several academic buildings, laboratories, and lecture theatres.

He also commended the Governing Council, Senate, and staff for their dedication to maintaining high academic standards, which have placed FUL among the fastest-growing federal universities in Nigeria.

The highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on distinguished Nigerians who have made remarkable contributions to education, leadership, and national development.

Among the recipients were Senator Tunde Ogbeha and Alhaji Umar Etsu Muhammed, the Tafida of Lokoja.

Senator Ogbeha was honoured for his exemplary leadership, philanthropy, and service to humanity, while the Tafida of Lokoja, Alhaji Etsu Umar Muhammed, was recognized for his immense contribution to the university — notably his donation and construction of a modern law court facility for the training of students in the Faculty of Law.

In his remarks, Senator Ogbeha expressed profound appreciation to the university for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a call to greater service to humanity.

He pledged continued support for education and youth empowerment initiatives across the country.

The Tafida of Lokoja, Alhaji Umar Etsu Muhammed, thanked the university for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting infrastructural and academic growth at FUL, especially within the Faculty of Law.

Delivering a goodwill message, Senator David Mark commended the university management for its impressive strides in academic and infrastructural development.

He congratulated Senator Ogbeha, the Tafida of Lokoja, and other honourees for their well-deserved awards.

The Maigari of Lokoja, the Olu of Oworo, and the Roggan of Eggan also commended the university for its growing reputation and contribution to community development, pledging continued support to strengthen collaboration between traditional institutions and the academic community.

The event also featured the presentation of prizes and awards to the best graduating students who excelled in academics and leadership.

Families, friends, and well-wishers filled the arena with joy and celebration as they marked their loved ones’ achievements.

Cultural troupes entertained guests with colourful performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kogi State, while various faculties hosted receptions for their graduates after the main event.

The 9th Convocation Ceremony of the Federal University Lokoja ended on a high note, with participants describing it as a well-organized and memorable occasion that underscored the university’s rising status as a centre of learning, innovation, and moral excellence.
