As the countdown to the upcoming Olympic Games in the USA continues, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Abu Gumel, has charged the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation to secure a ticket to represent Nigeria at the prestigious event.
During a courtesy visit by the President of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation, Mr. Uche Paulinus Odozor, Engr. Gumel emphasized the importance of qualifying for the Olympics. "We expect the Baseball and Softball Federation to work towards qualifying for the next Olympics," stated the NOC President. "We are committed to providing all necessary support to ensure the development of sports in Nigeria, and we assure you of equal opportunities for all associations."
Mr. Odozor briefed Engr. Gumel on the steps taken so far by the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation to secure a spot at the upcoming Olympic Games. He highlighted achievements such as the reclaiming and rehabilitation of the baseball and softball park at the MKO Abiola Stadium, which has sparked renewed interest in the games.
The NOC President was also informed about the federation's mobilization efforts, including the establishment of liaison offices in Canada, USA, UK, and Asia. These efforts have led to positive results with players showing interest in representing Nigeria at the Olympics.
Mr. Odozor commended the Federal Capital Territory Sports and Youths Secretariat for its massive support and called on other states to emulate the FCT's steps in sports development. Additionally, he appointed Engr. Abu Gumel as the Special Guest of Honor for the upcoming World Baseball and Softball Day celebration next month in appreciation of his support.
With the NOC's backing and the dedication of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation, hopes are high for Nigeria to secure a place at the upcoming Olympic Games and make the country proud on the international stage.
