NIESV President hails Federal Government tax reform bill
The President, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, (NIESV) ESV Victor Alonge, has commended the Federal Government for introducing the tax reform bill l which is before the National Assembly for scrutinization.
ESV Alonge gave the commendations at the inauguration ceremony of the fourth Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Kogi State branch held in Lokoja.
Represented by the 1st Vice President, NIESV ESV (Mallam) Muhammad Bature, he noted that one of the most assured sources of revenue for state governments is income from Property Tax or Land Use Charges, stressing that the unarguable fact of this is that experts and professionals in Land Administration, Estate Surveyors and Valuers, have a very critical role to play in this regard.
According to him, " In a bold drive to revamp the nation’s economy and set the country on the path of stability, growth and prosperity, the present administration has taken a number of decisions since its assumption of office.
"One of the crucial decisions so far taking towards strengthening the economy is the unification of all segments of the foreign exchange market which collapses all windows into one.
"The decision was one of the series of changes to operations in the foreign exchange market aimed at improving liquidity and stability.We are all aware of the Tax Reform bill which is before the National Assembly for scrutinization.
"When eventually passed, most likely and assented to by the President, it would lunch the country into a new Tax regime. State and local governments would not only key into it, but would bring up different initiatives and ingenuity to enhance their IGRs".
He added that Kogi State Branch of NIESV has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Institution, urging the new Executive to ‘’keep the flag flying by making the emblem soar high.
"The investiture ceremony has a special significance in the annals of this Branch as well as marking the beginning of a new dawn for Kogi State Branch and the Institution as a whole. During this ceremony, you shall formally take over the guardianship of a rich and noble tradition with pride and with pledge to work for the interest of the members of the Branch.
"I am particularly happy to note that new and enthusiastic minds are taking over the leadership of the Branch, confident and persuaded that you will perform the duties of your offices with great stride" he stated.
He reminded the new NIESV branch Chairman ESV John Eniwaiye, and his executive that it was a rare privilege and a great honour for them to serve in the State charging them to embrace openness and willingness to collaborate with intra and extra-industry stakeholders in their strive to make the profession more impactful in Kogi State and Nigeria in general.
