Encomium, as FUAHSE holds maiden Matriculation ceremony

The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences Enugu (FUAHSE) held its maiden matriculation ceremony on Saturday, amidst pomp and pageantry, marking a significant milestone in the healthcare development sector

The Vice Chancellor, Prof John Emaimo, in his speech, highlighted the importance of the matriculation ceremony, labeling it as a watershed moment in the institution's history. He noted that the establishment of FUAHSE was one of President Tinubu's innovative approaches to improve the healthcare needs of Nigerians by expanding and increasing the manpower output in the healthcare delivery system.

"One year ago, President Tinubu conceived the idea of enhancing healthcare services in Nigeria, leading to the establishment of FUAHSE on March 14, 2024," Prof Emaimo said. "Today, we are officially welcoming the first batch of students into the institution, representing a significant step towards achieving our goal of excellence in education and healthcare development."

The matriculation ceremony saw the admission of students into six faculties and 17 departments/programs, with a total of 1000 students being inducted into the institution. The event was attended by dignitaries, faculty members, and parents, who expressed their excitement at the establishment of FUAHSE and the quality of education it promises to offer.

President Tinubu's vision for FUAHSE is to train 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide within 16 months, in a bid to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country. The institution is set to play a crucial role in achieving this goal, with a focus on equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector.

As the ceremony came to a close, the Vice Chancellor urged the matriculating students to embrace the opportunity presented to them and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits. He emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to service, urging the students to make the most of their time at FUAHSE.

The maiden matriculation ceremony of FUAHSE was indeed a momentous occasion, symbolizing a new chapter in the quest for improved healthcare services in Nigeria. With a focus on excellence and innovation, the institution is poised to make a significant contribution to the healthcare sector, shaping the future of healthcare delivery in the country.
