Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the State has witnessed transformative initiatives that have redefined the approach towards combating GBV and promoting gender equity.

The Kogi State Government, with its unwavering commitment to championing the rights of women and vulnerable populations, has initiated an array of programs aimed at dismantling the systemic barriers and deeply rooted cultural norms that perpetuate violence against women and girls.
The establishment of the Directorate signifies a historic turning point in Kogi's policy landscape concerning gender justice, nurtured under the amiable leadership of Hon. Muizudeen Yunus Abdullahi (SAN), the Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kogi State.

This initiative not only raises awareness among pupils and students about the signs and ramifications of GBV but also empowers them to be advocates of change within their communities. Student Anti-GBV Ambassadors were decorated in all schools involved.

By fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusivity, these clubs serve as safe spaces for discussions surrounding gender issues, equipping young minds with the knowledge needed to challenge harmful norms and practices that perpetuate violence and discrimination.

Amplifying Awareness and Community Engagement. The Directorate’s extensive participation in sensitization programs, particularly during the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV in 2024, has been remarkable. These engaging road walks and outreach efforts have drawn significant participation from diverse demographics, exemplifying a collective stand against violence.

The emphasis on community involvement has proven vital in altering attitudes and behaviors surrounding GBV.In addition to physical outreaches, the Directorate has made commendable strides in media engagement.

Weekly publications in prominent newspapers address various GBV issues, serving not only to inform but also to empower readers with the necessary tools to identify and combat violence.

The production of flyers and other information communication materials further enriches these engagements, simplifying complex legal processes and survivor rights into accessible formats for all citizens.

This is made possible with the support of the amiable Permanent Secretary and Solicitor-General, Ministry of Justice, Kogi State, Hajia Falilat Yusuf Musa Esq. Training, Workshops, and Legal Prosecution.

The Directorate has also facilitated comprehensive training sessions and workshops focused on GBV issues, equipping enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, and community leaders with the skills necessary to better respond to cases.

These initiatives reinforce the understanding that GBV is not only a legal issue but one that requires an informed and compassionate community response. Equally important is the Directorate's ongoing diligent prosecution of rape cases, defilement cases, and numerous other GBV cases currently making their way through the courts of justice in Kogi State.
