ICCES MEETING: KOGI POLICE COMMAND, KOSIEC, AND FEDERAL SECURITY AGENCIES STRENGTHEN SYNERGY AHEAD OF THE 2026 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), a National Framework on Election Security comprising all Federal Security Agencies in the State, was convened today with the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi psc mni, as the committee chairman, in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for 17th October, 2026.

The meeting, which brought together the Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) and representatives of all Federal Security Agencies in the State, is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aimed at ensuring proactive planning, coordination, and a secure electoral process across the State.

In attendance were heads and representatives of the Nigerian Army (12 Brigade, Lokoja), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS),  National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), among other relevant stakeholders.

Deliberations focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration, reviewing past electoral challenges, and identifying possible threats before, during, and after the elections. The meeting also mapped out strategic measures to mitigate these risks, with emphasis on intelligence sharing, coordinated deployment, and effective communication to ensure a hitch-free electoral environment.

The Commissioner of Police commended the existing synergy among the security agencies and emphasized the need to sustain and improve collaboration in order to achieve a seamless electoral process. He reiterated the commitment of all security stakeholders to ensuring that the electoral atmosphere remains peaceful, credible, and free from violence or disruption.

The Kogi State Police Command assures members of the public of its readiness, in collaboration with other security agencies, to provide adequate security throughout the electoral period and urges all citizens to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security operatives to ensure the success of the elections.
