Ife Development Association Backs Omala Chairman’s Security Order, Urges Stronger Community Policing

The Ife Development Association (IDA), Lokoja Branch, has thrown its weight behind the Executive Chairman of Omala Local Government Council over his recent executive order aimed at tackling rising insecurity in the area. In a statement jointly signed by the Association’s Chairman, Comrade (Alhaji) Alih Abubakar, and Secretary, Awodi Daniel, and made available to journalists in Lokoja, the group commended the council boss for what it described as “bold and timely steps” to restore peace and stability in Omala Local Government Area. The association noted that the Chairman’s initiative demonstrates a clear commitment to safeguarding lives and property, especially in communities that have witnessed repeated security challenges. “We fully support the executive order issued by the Omala Local Government Chairman as it reflects proactive leadership in addressing the disturbing wave of insecurity in the area,” the statement read. The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), a National Framework on Election Security comprising all Federal Security Agencies in the State, was convened today with the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi psc mni, as the committee chairman, in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for 17th October, 2026. The meeting, which brought together the Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) and representatives of all Federal Security Agencies in the State, is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aimed at ensuring proactive planning, coordination, and a secure electoral process across the State. Kogi Awards Contract for 9km Dualisation of Airport Road

The Kogi State Government has approved the award of a contract for the dualisation of the road leading to the proposed Kogi Airport. The project, which covers about 9.1 kilometres, was awarded to CCECC Construction Company following a competitive bidding process involving five companies. CCECC Nigerian Limited emerged as the preferred contractor after submitting the lowest bid. Presenting the award certificate to the company’s project manager in Lokoja on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Engr. Sagir Abdulsalam, said the project would link the proposed ultra-modern Kogi Airport to the state road network. Abdulsalam, who represented the Commissioner for Works and Transport, said the contract is expected to be completed within 18 months. He explained that the road project forms part of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s economic expansion agenda and is designed to improve connectivity, ease movement and attract investment to the state.
