Kogi West Youth Group Condemns Ward Chairmen’s Vote of No Confidence on Senator Karimi, Warns Against Divisive Politics
A youth advocacy group in Kogi West has strongly condemned the recent vote of no confidence passed on Senator Sunday Steve Karimi by some ward chairmen, describing the action as unnecessary and capable of creating avoidable political tension within the party.
Addressing journalists during a World Press Conference held in Kabba, the group criticized the development, noting that such actions could deepen divisions within the party at a time when unity and cooperation are needed to strengthen political stability and development across Kogi West Senatorial District.
The group expressed concern that certain political actors influenced the ward chairmen to take the step, stressing that the move does not reflect the collective opinion of the people and grassroots supporters who continue to appreciate the representation and leadership style of Senator Karimi.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Kehinde Afolabi explained that the purpose of the press conference was to clarify the position of concerned youths and to call for responsible leadership among party stakeholders.
According to him, the youths of Kogi West remain committed to peace, unity, and progressive leadership. He emphasized that political disagreements should be handled through dialogue and internal party mechanisms rather than actions that may create unnecessary public tension.
Also speaking, Comr. Sunday Larayetan urged political stakeholders to avoid divisive politics and instead focus on issues that directly affect the welfare and development of the people. He noted that the youths of Kogi West will continue to support leadership that prioritizes empowerment, education, and community development.
The group also highlighted what it described as Senator Karimi’s people-oriented initiatives across the senatorial district, including empowerment programmes, educational support for students, and other community development efforts that have positively impacted youths, women, and several communities.
The press briefing was moderated by Mrs. Omotayo Omokehinde, who served as the interviewer and ensured that the concerns and positions of the youth group were clearly communicated to members of the press and the public.
Also present at the press conference was Comr. Alao Depolitician (Alao Kogi), a public affairs commentator who emphasized the need for political maturity, constructive dialogue, and unity among stakeholders in Kogi State politics.
The group concluded by calling on political leaders, party faithful, and stakeholders across Kogi West to remain focused on unity, development, and the collective progress of the people, stressing that the future of the district must not be undermined by unnecessary political divisions.
