2027: Why Onuh Edoka Stands Out as the Best Choice for Ankpa Federal Constituency

As the build-up to the 2027 general elections gradually gathers momentum, political activities across the country are beginning to intensify. For many observers, the forthcoming election will be a defining moment for voters to assess candidates based on capacity, trust, competence, transparency and accountability.

Among the personalities whose name has continued to resonate strongly in the political landscape of Ankpa Federal Constituency is Comrade Onuh Edoka, a former labour leader widely regarded as a man of integrity and service.

Supporters believe that allowing the seasoned labour activist to represent Ankpa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives would usher in a new phase of development for the area and strengthen the voice of Kogi East at the national level.

Edoka, who previously served as Chairman of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria in Kogi State and later as a key figure in the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), earned recognition for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers. During his time in the labour movement, the plight of workers became a central focus of his advocacy.

“Comrade Edoka stood firmly for workers when many felt unheard. His leadership restored confidence among labour unions and ensured that workers’ welfare was placed at the forefront of government engagement,” a labour stakeholder in Kogi East noted.

Currently serving as Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Edoka has continued to play a strategic role in advancing labour-friendly policies in the state.

His allies point to Kogi State’s early implementation of the new national minimum wage of over ₦70,000 as one of the significant achievements in which he played a supportive role.

“Edoka’s understanding of workers’ challenges contributed greatly to the smooth implementation of the new minimum wage in Kogi. It has significantly eased the financial pressure on civil servants,” a senior government official said.

Beyond labour advocacy, Edoka’s supporters also highlight his philanthropic activities and grassroots empowerment initiatives across Kogi East. Over the years, many vulnerable individuals have reportedly benefited from his empowerment programmes, with some receiving start-up kits to enable them establish small businesses.

One community leader in Ankpa Federal Constituency said, “Edoka has always shown compassion for the less privileged. Several youths and women have benefitted from his empowerment programmes, which have helped them become self-reliant.”

Another resident described him as a bridge-builder with a strong vision for development.

“Comrade Edoka is a visionary leader who understands the needs of the people. His leadership style focuses on human capital development, infrastructure, healthcare and opportunities for young people,” the resident added.

During his tenure in the labour movement, Edoka was also credited with facilitating the construction of the first Labour House in Kogi State—an edifice designed to provide a conducive working environment for union leaders and ensure continuity in labour administration.

Labour stakeholders have described the project as a legacy initiative that strengthened institutional capacity within the labour movement in the state.

“With the Labour House in place, future leaders of the NLC in Kogi now have a functional and well-equipped facility to operate from. It remains one of Edoka’s enduring contributions to organised labour,” a union member said.

Political analysts argue that the 2027 elections present an opportunity for the people of Ankpa Federal Constituency to elect a representative who understands grassroots challenges and has a proven record of service.

They believe that Edoka’s experience in labour leadership, governance and community engagement positions him as a strong contender capable of championing the interests of the constituency at the National Assembly.

“If given the mandate, Edoka has the capacity to attract development projects and promote policies that will benefit the people of Ankpa Federal Constituency,” another supporter remarked.

As political consultations and alignments continue ahead of the 2027 polls, many constituents insist that the moment calls for leaders with a track record of service and commitment to the public good.

For them, Comrade Onuh Edoka represents not just a candidate, but a potential pathway toward renewed hope, inclusive development and effective representation for the people of Ankpa Federal Constituency.
