Kogi Police Commissioner Strengthens Community Ties, Visits Traditional Rulers, University, and Stakeholders in Familiarization Tour
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, psc, has embarked on a strategic familiarization tour across key communities in the state, aimed at reinforcing police-community relations, enhancing collaborative efforts with stakeholders, and promoting proactive, intelligence-led policing.
According to the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya on Saturday, the tour, which spanned the Ankpa and Ayingba Area Commands, included visits to traditional rulers, local government officials, critical stakeholders, and the management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba.
During the tour, CP Dantawaye paid courtesy visits to the Ejeh of Ankpa, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Yakubu, and the Ogohi of Ayingba, Alhaji Abu Shaibu Okolo. He solicited their continued royal support, urging them to speak to their subjects about obeying the law, avoiding jungle justice, and cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
“Security is everyone’s responsibility,” CP Dantawaye emphasized. “We must work together to ensure peace in our communities.”
In Ankpa, the Police Commissioner visited the Local Government Secretariat, where he was warmly received by the Deputy Chairman, Hajiya Habiba Imam, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Mohammed Adamu. He commended the local administration for its contributions to peace and order, noting the significant reduction in crime within the area.
“The drop in criminal activities in Ankpa is a testament to the synergy between the community and security agencies,” he stated, urging sustained support for law enforcement efforts.
Hajiya Habiba Imam, in her response, praised the dedication of the police and other security agencies and assured the CP of continued support from the council to maintain security and peace.
As part of the tour, CP Dantawaye also convened stakeholders’ security meetings at both Ankpa and Ayingba Area Commands. The sessions brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), NURTW, motorcycle riders’ unions, Fulani and Hausa leaders, vigilante groups, and local hunters.
The discussions focused on public safety, intelligence gathering, and the need for constant community engagement to strengthen security architecture. The CP specifically addressed the recurring issue of farmer-herder clashes, with particular reference to the Oganenigu community.
“No police system can succeed without information,” he said. “We rely on the public to report incidents early. Jungle justice is unlawful, and anyone who engages in it will face legal consequences.”
CP Dantawaye also met with officers under both Ankpa and Ayingba Area Commands, including divisions in Olamaboro, Okaba, Omala, Enjema, Imane, Dekina, Bassa, Abocho, and Egume. He used the opportunity to motivate officers and address their concerns, particularly regarding the contributory pension scheme. He disclosed that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, is already making efforts to improve the welfare of both serving and retired officers.
The CP emphasized professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights during his briefing, urging officers to avoid corruption, extortion, and other unprofessional conduct.
As part of his engagements, CP Dantawaye visited Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, where he was received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Johnson Juwon Balogun, and other members of the university management. The DVC applauded the improved security situation on campus and commended the CP’s proactive leadership and commitment to stakeholder collaboration.
“We’ve seen clear signs of positive transformation in the security outlook of our university, thanks to the efforts of your officers,” Prof. Balogun said.
In his remarks, CP Dantawaye assured the people of Kogi State that under his leadership, the Command will continue to deploy community-based and intelligence-led strategies to ensure safety and security across all communities.
