Kogi Sports Ministry’s Silence Over Forged Appointment Raises Suspicions — Stakeholders Vow Not to Back Down

The silence of the Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports over the now widely exposed forged reappointment letter of Mr. Jibril Ogih Saidu as Chairman of the Handball Association is both troubling and suspicious.

To date, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Monday Anyebe, has refused to publicly address or debunk the forgery, despite credible evidence pointing to fraudulent manipulation of an official document. This inaction, at a time when transparency and accountability are desperately needed, is creating the impression of foul play, internal compromise, or double standards within the Ministry.

Meanwhile, in an effort to clarify the situation, we contacted the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, who categorically denied the existence of any such reappointment. Similarly, Mr. Adejoh Akowe, the Director of Sports whose name and signature appear on the fraudulent letter, also denied authorizing or being aware of the said document. Yet, the Ministry remains mute, fueling speculation that key officials may be complicit or unwilling to confront those behind this misconduct.

To further compound the matter, we are aware of a petition already lodged with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and credible information that a court summons is being prepared — not against the forgers, but against us, the complainants. This disturbing twist suggests an attempt to intimidate whistleblowers and silence those seeking accountability.
Let the world know: we are not afraid. We will not be silenced. We will not retreat.

This is no longer just a fight for the soul of handball in Kogi State — it is a fight against corruption, impunity, and abuse of office. If this level of forgery can be covered up, and those raising alarm are threatened with legal action, then our sports sector is under siege from within.

Our Demands Remain Unchanged:

1. An official statement from the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Monday Anyebe, disowning the forged appointment and affirming the position of the Ministry.

2. A full investigation into the origin of the forged letter, including all individuals involved in its creation and circulation.

3. Protection for whistleblowers and stakeholders who have come forward in good faith to expose the truth.

4. Immediate disciplinary and legal measures against any official found complicit in this act of forgery and deceit.

Conclusion

No amount of intimidation, delay, or political shielding will stop the truth from coming out. The Kogi State sports sector belongs to the people — not to desperate individuals clinging to expired relevance.

We call on His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and all lovers of truth, integrity, and youth development, to stand with us as we demand a full unraveling of this scandal.

The battle for a better and cleaner sports system in Kogi State has begun — and we will not back down.
