Kogi State Hon. Attorney General and the General Secretary NBA visit PDCRC, commend the Commission on the discharge of her mandate
Musa Onogo Idris, Esq., the Director General, Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission (PDCRC), recently hosts the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kogi State, Muizudeen Yunus Abdullahi, SAN and the General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Mobolaji Idris Ojibara at the Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission, Lokoja.
The DG PDCRC greatly appreciated the Hon. Attorney General and the General Secretary NBA for visiting the Commission and shared with them some of the programmes and activities of the Commission.
Onogo Esq., noted that the Commission has been committed to implementing her mandate and also sensitizing the residents of the State on the provisions of the Kogi State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) (VAPP) Law, 2022.
You may recall that PDCRC is saddled with the mandate of providing free legal representation and other related services to residents of Kogi State, particularly the indigents, less privileged and vulnerable.
Also, the Commission settles disputes by way of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).The Commission is also responsible for the protection and preservation of the fundamental rights of all residents in the State; monitoring and investigating cases of human rights violation in the State and assisting victims of human rights violation seek appropriate redress and remedies.
The Commission receives complaints directly from individuals or by referral from government agencies, public and private institutions.The DG applauded the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kogi State, for his commitment and tireless support to the Commission at ensuring smooth operations and actualization of the roles of the Commission.
While responding, the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kogi State, Muizudeen Yunus Abdullahi, SAN, commended the Director General PDCRC and his team for ensuring effective discharge of the Commission’s mandate and assured the DG of his continuous support to the Commission.
In his address, the General Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Mobolaji Idris Ojibara, also commended PDCRC for what they do for humanity and requested to partner with the Commission in providing pro bono legal representation to indigent and disadvantaged residents of the State.
In conclusion, the DG thanked them specially and noted that he was pleased to engage in partnership with individuals and organizations to scale up service delivery to the people of the State.
He presented to them the Commission’s polo shirts for sensitization on the Kogi State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) (VAPP) Law, 2022.
